Samsung has now officially announced its new Exynos 7 Octa SoC based on 14nm 3D FinFET manufacturing process, which will bring significant improvements over existing 20nm planar manufacturing process used for current generation Exynos 7 SoCs.
According to Samsung, the new Exynos 7 chip made on 14nm manufacturing process will provide up to 35 percent lower power consumption, 20 percent higher performance and have 30 percent productivity gain. In case you missed earlier rumors and reports, the new 14nm 3D FinFET based Exynos 7 Octa CPU will be used on the upcoming Samsung Galaxy S6 smartphone.
Currently Samsung is the only company, next to Intel, that can make 14nm chip and it will surely bring significant advantage to Samsung. According to earlier rumors and reports, Samsung has decided to go for its own Exynos 7 SoC for the upcoming Galaxy S6 flagship smartphone, rather than have two versions, based on its own Exynos SoC and Qualcomm Snapdragon SoC, as it was the case with previous Galaxy S smartphones.
Hopefully we will see the performance of the new Exynos 7 Octa chip performance soon, or as soon Samsung launches the new Galaxy S6 flagship smartphone.
