While we are still waiting for the official launch of the Nvidia Geforce GTX 960 scheduled for tomorrow, we now have some fresh rumors regarding possible GTX 960 Ti graphics card that might not be based on the same GM206 GPU as the GTX 960, but rather on a cut-down version of the GM204 GPU.
According to recent leak over
at Videocardz.com, which indicates that the fully-enabled GM206 GPU features 1024 CUDA cores and that the GTX 960 is based on that same fully enabled GPU, suggest that the possible GTX 960 Ti graphics card could use a further cut-down version of the GM204 GPU, enabling it to fill the gap between the GTX 960 and the GTX 970.
There were already a couple of leaks of the GTX 960 graphics card with a 256-bit memory bus spotted on Zauba importing database, which also suggest that it might be the GTX 960 Ti based on the GM204 GPU. On the other hand, it is also possible that the GM206 GPU has more that 8 SMMs / 1024 CUDA cores, despite the fact that we did not see it on the leaked diagram.
In any case, we are pretty sure that Nvidia will have at least on more mid-range graphics card to fill the gap between the GTX 960 and the GTX 970, and we will get back to that idea once Nvidia officially launches the GTX 960 tomorrow, January 22nd.
