Valve has decided to go after Twitch as it has announced the Steam Broadcasting, a service that allows you to livestream your gameplay to either the entire world or just to your friends.
While it is still in beta phase, the Steam Broadcasting is certainly interesting as while you usually need a dedicated software to livestream your gameplay, Steam is doing it on-the-fly, something that will certainly appeal to those that have an extensive Steam library of games.
Steam Broadcasting will offer you to stream your gameplay either publicly, to the entire world, or privately to your friends. It can be set automatically to stream your gameplay to your Steam friend list or your friends can send a request to view your stream and vice versa. It also allows you to see a list of viewers from the Steam overlay broadcast box.
While it does somewhat goes after Twitch and its streaming service, Twitch VP of Marketing Matthew DiPietro has noted that the company is a big fan of Steam and while Valve's Steam Broadcasting solution and Twitch platform are very different things with "vastly different feature sets", it is great to know that a company like Valve embrace streaming this way.
We are quite sure that Valve will add a bunch of other features to Steam Broadcasting as, after all, it is still in its beta phase.
