Microsoft modifies Windows 8.1 for a few partners

Windows 8.1 on a 1024x600 display

During the IFA 2014 convention, a few Microsoft partners unveiled low-end tablets, equipped with a 7” display, medium specs, and based on Windows 8.1 OS.

Microsoft might have not been able to present a product able to compete on the Chromebooks market, but it's certainly going strong against the low-end tablet market. The company is also willing to modify its operative system, to follow the needs of its partners.

Let's look at the Toshiba Encore Mini for example, which is based on an Intel Atom Z3735G CPU, it features 1GB of RAM, 16GB of internal storage, and a 7-inches display at 1024x600 resolution. Due to its low resolution, which is actually not compatible with Windows 8.1 (and with Windows 7 aswell), Microsoft is fixing its OS to make it compatible with this display, letting the apps to scale to lower resolutions.

Acer also presented a similar product, which will actually be the first 7-inches tablet, based on Microsoft OS, with a start price of 129€. Let the testing begin!
