Dell shows 27-inch 5K UltraSharp monitor

5120x2880 resolution and US $2,500 price tag

While the next big thing with displays is definitely the UHD/4K resolution, Dell has some other things in mind as well as it has just showed its new 27-inch 5K 5120x2880 resolution UltraSharp monitor.

The aforementioned 5K tag for the new 27-inch Ultrasharp monitor comes from a rather stunning 5120x2880 resolution, or basically two 2560x1440 via Multi-Stream Transport (MST), something that we have thanks to the DisplayPort 1.2 standard. In terms of pixel density, 5K on 27-inch adds up to 218ppi and puts the new Ultrasharp monitor from Dell quite close to Apple's 15-inch MacBook Pro Retina which has 221ppi.

While there are still a lot of unknowns regarding the new Dell 5K Ultrasharp 27-inch monitor, including the number and type of inputs as well as refresh rate, color and panel details, some reports suggesting that it will feature 16W Harman Kardon speakers and most likely few USB ports, Dell at least delivered some info regarding the availability and the price as it expects the new 5K 27-inch UltraSharp monitor on retail/e-tail shelves before Christmas with a US $2,500 price tag.
