According to the latest report, Nvidia might be planing to launch its next-generation flagship graphics card as early as October or November, which suggest that it will have new high-end graphics cards on retail/e-tail shelves before Christmas.
According to the report coming from
SweClockers, the Geforce GTX 880 and the GTX 870, will be announced in either October or November. These two GPUs will be based on the new GM204 Maxwell GPU and 28nm manufacturing process. While the precise specifications of the GM204 GPU are still unknown, the naming of the graphics cards suggest that this will indeed be aimed at the high-end market. Nvidia's GTX 880 and the GTX 870 will replace the current GTX 780 and GTX 780 Ti graphics cards and there are certain reports that Nvidia is also working on the GM200 GPU which should replace the all mighty GK110 GPU, aka GTX Titan class graphics cards.
Similar report from
Videocardz.com, suggest that we might even see the GM204-based graphics cards during Gamescom 2014 show scheduled to kick off on 13th of August. The rumor was started by a forum post over at Notebookreview, which shows a 3DMark Fire Strike Extreme screenshot of an unknown graphics card with an extremely high graphics score of 6578. According to poster, this graphics card should be seen at the Gamescom 2014.
In any case, it appears that 28nm GPUs will be here longer than anyone expected and we will not see any 20nm GPUs before the next year.
