Sony targets 5 million PS4 sales by March 2014

By end of the fiscal year

According to a report from Engadget, Sony is targeting to score 5 million Playstation 4 sales by the end of its fiscal year in March 2014. The target is quite optimistic and Sony would not have a problem achieving it if all goes well but considering that it will not launch the console in its "native" Japan market until February 2014, it also sounds like a far fetched target.

The number also sounds a bit too optimistic considering that it took Sony almost a year to reach that same target with the Playstation 3. Of course, times are changing and both the game market and console market is now looking as good as ever and if most developers and publishers stay on track, Sony might have a winner on its hands.

Microsoft will be a tough competition with its new Xbox One and certainly take a bite from Sony's market share, but both have their loyal customer base and we are sure that both will do quite well.

Since they based on pretty much the same architecture, developers and publishers will have a pretty easy time when releasing game titles that are not exclusive to a single console.
