According to a report over at Digitimes.com, Google's shipments for the second-generation Nexus 7 are estimated at around 3.5 million in 2013 which hardly sounds as impressive.


According to its sources in Taiwan's supply chain, Google might fall short with second-generation Nexus 7 since it will not be launched on the China market. The estimated 3.5 million of global shipments certainly falls short from what was expected from the new Nexus 7.

The main reason for low global shipment estimate lies in the rumor that the new Nexus 7 will not be able to enter the China market due to Google's decision to quite the market back in 2010. The fact that it is developed in close cooperation with Taiwan based Asus is highly unlikely to change China government decision. The Nexus 7 is expected to go on sale in Taiwan sometimes in early September.

Another reason for low estimated global shipments lies in the fact that 7-inch tablet market is getting quite crowded and there is some quite stiff competition on it. Even Asus with its own entry-level 7-inch MeMO Pad HD 7 will sell happily in most markets and could out-sell the new Nexus 7, despite the better screen and higher performance.

Google and Asus managed to ship around six million units of the original, first-generation, Nexus 7, since it launched in July last year.

Of course, the Europe, USA and the rest of the regions will certainly boost the sales of the new Nexus 7 but without China, it will be quite hard to sell as much devices as expected.
