Samsung has announced that it has started to mass produced the industry's most advanced DDR4 memory aimed at enterprise servers and next-generation data centers.
While 30nm-class 8GB modules will still be available, Samsung has announced that it has started to mass produce the industry's most advanced DDR4 memory that will bring 20nm-class 4Gb DDR4 devices in order to fulfill the demand for 16GB and 32GB memory modules.
Young-Hyun Jun, executive vice president of memory sales & marketing at Samsung Electronics noted that the adoption of ultra-high-speed DDR4 in next-generation servers will push toward advanced premium memory across the market and, after providing the market with steady supply of 16GB DDR3 earlier this year, Samsung will continue to extend the premium server market in this year and will focus on higher density and added performance with 32GB DDR4 memory.
The production of 20nm-class 4Gb DDR4 will push the full transition to DDR4 for large-scale data centers and other enterprise applications in just five years. The 4Gb-based DDR4 offers transmission rate of 2677Mbps which is over 1.25-fold increase when compared to 20nm-class DDR3 memory, while power consumption is lowered by more than 30 percent.
