Intel 9-series chipset might not support Haswell

Questionable backward-compatibility

Intel's 9-series chipset aimed to be used with the Intel Core Broadwell CPUs and scheduled for 2H of 2014, might have some backward-compatibility issues with currently available Intel Core Haswell CPU, despite the fact that the are based on the same LGA1150 CPU socket. According to a report from VR-Zone.com, the issue might be in a different power supply which could pose backward-compatibility issues.

To make things even worse, it appears that the issue goes both ways and Broadwell will not be able to work on currently available Intel 8-series chipset. Apparently and according to the report, a number of electrical connections between the CPU socket and the chipset are quite different and have a different power distribution on the motherboard, thus it might have some big issues between these two CPU generations.

As you may already know, before the actual release of the Core Broadwell CPU family, Intel plans to launch a Haswell refresh that should bring fully-integrated clocking mode as well as some other changes, so the actual Haswell refresh might work with the Intel 9-series chipset, but the first and currently available Haswell CPUs might not be supported.
