Intel's upcoming 2014 enthusiast Haswell-E Halo platform will have quite a few upgrades and changes when it launches in the Q2 of 2014, as according to slides, it will bring 8-core CPU with up to 20MB of L3 cache.
According to the leaked slide, the Haswell-E platform will not only bring the first Intel 8-core DT CPU and be the first Intel platform with DDR4 memory but will also feature 40 PCIe Gen 3 lanes, quad-channel memory and up to 16 threads thanks to Hyper Threading, as well as detail that all CPUs will be unlocked.
Based on 22nm 2nd-generation Hi-k process, the Haswell-E CPU will feature 8 and 6-core versions, have up to 20MB of Intel Smart Cache, feature Intel Turbo Boost 2 technology and Hyper Threading, support for overclocking with Extreme Edition and K SKUs, have integrated memory controller with 4-channels DDR4 2133 and up to 40 PCIe GEN 3 lanes for 2x16+1x8 or 3x8 graphics cards. The TDP will be at around 130-140W and will use LGA 2011-3 socket.
The X99 chipset will also bring up to 6 USB 3.0 ports, 8 USB 2.0 ones, up to 10 SATA 6Gbps ports, integrated Clock support and a TDP of mere 6.5W.
