Gigabyte confirms upcoming AMD 5GHz+ FX-series CPU

Supports it on its GA-990FXA-UD7 motherboard

Gigabyte's GA-990FXA-UD7 motherboard description spotted at Computex by Sweclockers pretty much confirmed that the upcoming FX-9000 Piledriver-based CPU is indeed real and that it is indeed heading for the retail/e-tail shelves.

A motherboard description for its AMD 990FX+SB950 chipset based GA-990FXA-UD7 motherboard at the Computex show noted that it supports AMD next generation AM3+ 5GHz FX series processors all thanks to 8+2-phase CPU VRM power design for high-TDP CPU support. As you remember, the FX-9000, rumored earlier, will work at 4.8GHz base and 5GHz Turbo Core clocks which makes it the only FX-Series CPU that has such clocks and 220W TDP.

This also means that the rumored FX-9000 might not work on every AM3+ motherboard as it will probably need a beefier CPU VRM part but that should not be a problem as this one will be definitely aimed at enthusiasts that are gunning for nothing less than a high-end motherboard.

All we need now is the precise date for the launch and the precise price of this FX-Series eight-core beast.
