Mushkin has shown their new Source series of SSDs which all use 3D NAND flash memory which should offer enhanced performance when compared to SSDs powered by standard Planar NAND. With the Source series Mushkin offers a unit based on a Silicon Motion controller. All the new drives features a 2.5 inch package.
These units come with a SATA-III interface so the performance is not going to be a surprise. As expected the Source SSDs are able to max out the SATA-III interface, hitting up to 560MB/s sequential read and 520MB/s for sequential writes. In the case of 4K speeds 75'000/81'000 IOPS are achieved regarding random reads/writes. According to Mushkin all the versions are offering an MTBF (mean time between failures) of 1.5 million hours. In addition this unit supports S.M.A.R.T., TRIM and NCQ, which is what you expect it to support.
The Source SSDs will be available with 120GB, 250GB, 500GB, and 1TB of storage capacity and they'll be covered by a 3-year warranty plan. So far Mushkin has not revealed any details on pricing and availability but we're sure it won't take very long until those drives are going to be listed on the usual price comparison portals. Furthermore the company should release the series in M.2 package as well.
