ADATA has shown their new XPG SX950U series of SSDs which all use 3D TLC flash memory which should offer enhanced performance when compared to SSDs powered by standard Planar NAND. With the XPG SX950U series ADATA offers a unit based on a Silicon Motion controller. All the new drives features a 2.5 inch package.
These units come with a SATA-III interface so the performance is not going to be a surprise. As expected the XPG SX950U SSDs are able to max out the SATA-III interface, hitting up to 560MB/s sequential read and 520MB/s for sequential writes. In the case of 4K speeds 80'000/81'000 IOPS are achieved regarding random reads/writes. According to ADATA all the versions are offering an MTBF (mean time between failures) of 2 million hours. In addition this unit supports S.M.A.R.T., TRIM and NCQ, which is what you expect it to support.
The XPG SX950U SSDs will be available with 120GB, 240GB, 480GB, and 960GB of storage capacity and they'll be covered by a 5-year warranty plan. So far ADATA has not revealed any details on pricing and availability but we're sure it won't take very long until those drives are going to be listed on the usual price comparison portals.
