A couple of years ago, Intel launched its first Xeon D SoCs in order to compete against ARM-based servers. Intel's Xeon D-2100 processor family consists of 14 models that you can find below. These SoCs can sport up to 18 cores and 36 threads. Furthermore they can support up to 512GB DDR4-266 ECC RAM, support up to 32 PCI-Express 3.0 lanes, and come with a rather low TDP. All these upcoming SoCs will be protected by Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities via system software updates.
Since these SoCs belong to the BGA series of processors, system integrators will need to create servers for their customers. At this time only Supermicro and ASRock have added serverboards and embedded solutions with Intel Xeon D-2100 SoCs. During the next weeks we are sure we will see more of this products around.
