AMD's next-gen GPU has been spotted in Linux drivers

AMD Navi expected for late 2018

AMD Vega is out since a while and only now we are getting the first custom models. However it's time to start looking towards the future. According to the roadmap, we know that AMD Vega will be followed up by Navi at some point between 2018 and 2020. Today we know that progress is being made since AMD's next-gen GPU has appeared in a new driver.

The latest Linux driver from AMD contains a reference to the upcoming GFX10 chip: "new_chip.gfx10.mmSUPER_SECRET.enable [0: 0]". Just for reference, the current AMD Vega has GFX9 as codename. While we already know that Navi is set to be AMD's next gen architecture, GFX10 at the moment is labeled as "super secret" and in this way the company want keep things under wraps to avoid expectations about a release date. According to Videocardz, Navi could appear during the last part of 2018.

What we know about Navi so far? What we know so far is that it will be AMD's first graphics chip based on the 7nm architecture. Furthermore it will sports next-gen video memory, we could expect HBM3 or GDDR6 memory. We know that GDDR6 will be available inside GPUs during the next year, while for HBM3 we should wait a bit more.
