NVIDIA has unleashed the TITAN V graphics card

Based on Volta

When we thought that the company was done with new GPU launches for the year, NVIDIA launched the TITAN V graphics card. This model is the first Volta-based Titan graphics card ever. According to the specifications, it packs 21.1 billion transistors and delivers 110 teraflops of computational power. In order words is nine time faster then Titan Xp.

While for the past few years NVIDIA has released Titan graphics card like part of the gaming series, this is not the case this time around. For example the TITAN V costs $3000 and according to NVIDIA it should turn your PC into an AI Supercomputer. In other words, this new beast isn't designed for gamers and we should expect a new GTX 10- or 20- series based on Volta during next months.

Speaking about NVIDIA's goals with the Volta architecture, CEO Jensen Huang said: "Our vision for Volta was to push the outer limits of high performance computing and AI. We broke new ground with its new processor architecture, instructions, numerical formats, memory architecture and processor links. With TITAN V, we are putting Volta into the hands of researchers and scientists all over the world. I can't wait to see their breakthrough discoveries."

With the Volta architecture, NVIDIA has redesigned the streaming multiprocessor, making it twice as energy efficient compared to Pascal. In other words, the new Titan V features a huge performance per watt boost. TITAN V sports 12GB of HBM2 memory across a 3072-bit wide memory interface. The GPU die has been built with the 12 nm FinFET+ process by TSMC. Specification wise, the card features 5120 CUDA cores and 320 TMUs. For comparison reasons, the TITAN Xp features 3840 CUDA cores and 240 TMUs.

The Titan V works at 1200MHz/1455MHz Core/Boost frequencies, with HBM2 memory set to 850 MHz. The card draws power from a combination of 6-pin and 8-pin PCIe power connectors. Regarding connectors we find three DisplayPort connectors, one HDMI 2.0b port. The announcement of the TITAN V comes just days after NVIDIA revealed that it would be releasing AI software for TITAN users.
