Futuremark's latest virtual reality benchmark VRMark Cyan Room is finally available for download. This new test measures your PC's performance with the more efficient DirectX12 API. According to the company, the test sports a new DirectX 12 engine which allows complex environment and gorgeous graphics.
Almost one year ago, Futuremark released the VRMark benchmark which enables you to test your theoretic performance in VR experiences. The original release of VRMark featured two rooms: the Orange Room, which is compatible with Oculus Rift or HTC Vive headsets, and the Blue Room, which renders the scene at 5K resolution to simulate the requirements of next-gen VR headset. The Cyan Room provide impressive effects even on entry-level or mid-range gaming PCs.
VRMark is mostly a benchmark for computer hardware, however there is an Experience Mode that allows you to explore the test environment. The original release featured experiences for both the Blue and Orange rooms. With the latest update, you can explore the Cyan Room as well. According to Futuremark, the recommended specifications include a dual core CPU with SSE 4.1 support, 3GB of RAM, 2GB of disk space and a graphics card compatible with DirectX12 level 11_0. We have done a quick run with this new tool and on following you can find some of our screenshots. Although the new scenario includes a quite useful benchmark we haven't been able to complete any run due to several and random crashes.
This release comes at the same time as Steam's Autumn sale, which is currently offering a price reduction for VRMark, 3DMark and PCMark 10. At the moment you can find several bundles on Steam and save up 77% off the retail price.
