Microsoft releases new build for W10

Build 17040 now available

Microsoft has released the new build 17040 of the Windows 10 Insider Preview system. According to the company, if you are already part of the "Fast Ring", you might be able to download the new version today. The new release includes improvements to the settings menu, touch keyboard and handwriting panel.

The previous version (build 17035) was available and compatible with Intel systems only. This issue has been fixed so now all users can download the latest preview version. With the build 17040, Microsoft brings up several updates. For example the support for high dynamic range (HDR) has been improved and now you can change the brightness of standard dynamic ranged content. Speaking about cursors, you can now customize the cursor thickness, pointer size, color and touch feedback.

If you like handwriting panel, you will be happy to know that Microsoft has improved the insertion gesture and the "commit" text to a document. Everything should be smoother and easier now. If you download this build, you will get early access to other Windows apps like Skype and Photos.

As always, a new build also brings a list of changes, fixes, improvements and known issues. You can view the full build notes on the Windows Blog.
