There have already been plenty of leaks from other websites regarding Intel's upcoming Coffee Lake CPUs. Today we can finally show some of our own results. A few months ago we have started testing all the recent CPUs regarding a variety of programs and benchmarks and meanwhile we’re starting to add Coffe Lake chips.
Our tests confirm what we've already seen with all the other leaks. At standard clock speeds and in the applications we've tested, the Core i5-8600K is on average 2% slower than the Core i7-7700K and 2% faster than the Core i7-5820K. If we set all the CPUs to 4.2 GHz then the average difference is 4% between the Core i5-8600K and the Core i7-7700K and 14% between Core i5-8600K and the Core i7-5820K.
In single-threaded applications with same clock speed, like for instance in "Black Hole", we can see that the Core i5-8600K is about 9% slower than the Core i7-7700K and 28% faster than the Core i7-5820K.
In addition we also ran a couple of benchmarks with our test sample pushed to 4.8 GHz at 1.27 volts. So far our first CPUs looks pretty bad in terms of overclocking headroom but still we managed to get some decent scores out of it. The benchmarks have been conducted on a Z370 motherboard with 4x4GB DDR4 memory. In combination with a Corsair H100i v2 CPU cooler the CPU reached 80°C quite quickly running Cinebench R15 and scoring 1'165 points.
At the moment we haven't done any 3D tests but we are sure that the difference between Coffee Lake and Kaby Lake or Skylake will be tiny once again. During the next days you can expect more benchmarks and reviews on Coffee Lake as well as on Z370 motherboards.
