A few weeks ago, AMD has officially announced their Ryzen Threadripper processors. These new CPUs come with more cores and threads than the already available Ryzen 7 parts and on top of that Threadripper requires AMD’s X399 HEDT platform. In the meantime an Indian online shop has started selling the first units, ahead of the actual availability date, which was supposed to be August 31st.
PrimeAGB is listing the chip for INR 45,699, which is equivalent to about $715 US. That in turn is significantly more than AMD’s intended MSRP of $549 US, which can be explained by the fact that shops in India put apply high margins and the taxes on PC hardware are very high as well.
A quick look at AMD’s HEDT lineup includes three processors with up to 16 cores and 32 threads. The Ryzen Threadripper 1900X chip comes with 8 cores and 16 threads. These are basically the same specs as the Ryzen 7 1800X with the difference that the Threadripper part requires AMD’s X399 HEDT platform.
Compared to the Threadripper 1920X chip, the clock frequencies are a bit higher and the TDP lower. According to the latest information, the Ryzen Threadripper 1900X comes with a base clock of 3.80GHz and a boost clock of 4.00GHz, while the Threadripper 1920X has a base clock frequency of 3.50GHz and a boost clock of 4.00GHz. However the main difference between these two models is the core count since the Threadripper 1900X sports 8-cores and 16-threads.
