HTC Vive 200 Euro cheaper

Oculus rift reduced in price as well

So far experiencing VR is still a rather costly venture. First of all a capable gaming PC is required and secondly you need the VR gear to actually enjoy it. Therefore, after already having spent 2000 to 2500 Euro/USD on a gaming machine the investment of another 899 Euro was necessary for HTC’s Vive VR headset.

Right before Gamescom opens its doors to the public HTC announces that they’re cutting the price on the Vive VR headsets. The new price of these units is now 699 Euro, which makes them a little more affordable. Nevertheless, in our opinion, it’s still an expensive toy especially due to the fact, that there still isn’t a proper portfolio of games, which are really fun to play for hours.

Whether HTC wants to reach a wider audience or the price cut was a response to what Oculus did regarding their Rift, that’s currently unclear. Meanwhile the Oculus Rift VR equipment sells for 449 Euro including two controllers. Before Oculus changed the prices customers had to pay 560 Euro for a complete kit. In the end we believe that a combination of the two things is the most likely, which would include a response to Oculus as well as reaching a broader audience. If HTC wouldn’t have changed the price there would have been a 450 Euro price difference between the two products, or in other words, for the price of one HTC Vive two Oculus Rifts could have been bought.
