With their Vega Frontier Edition AMD didn’t manage to win back the performance crown in the gaming segment, however the Vega FE offers interesting features for professionals. Thanks to AMD XConnect this card can be used with notebooks in combination with an external enclosure. In an effort to keep up with AMD regarding feature like the ones just mentioned NVIDIA decided to come up with new drivers.
According to NVIDIA, the new driver version should increase performance in applications like Maya. Furthermore the company is making the Titan Xp and Quadro workstation graphics cards compatible with external enclosures. Although it's still unclear how the company achieved this, it seems that they are bringing some of the optimizations from the Quadro drivers to the Titan Xp. According to the Redditor "brutuscat2", who installed these new drivers on his Titan X Pascal based system, the performance has increased on 3DSMax, Catia, Creo, and other apps in the test suite.
Furthermore NVIDIA has announced full support for Titan X and Quadro in external graphics enclosures. Although the press release didn't share any information on this point, the external boxes for the Quadro graphics will come from qualified partners such as Bizon, Sonnet and One Stop Systems.
As always, you can download the new GeForce 385.12 Beta drivers over at NVIDIA's support page or automatically via the Geforce Experience software.
