If these days you want to buy a fast SSD you’re going to choose an M.2 drive. Those drives are really fast but unfortunately some of them also struggle with overheating issues. A few months ago, Alphacool introduced its M.2 heat sink which is supposed to help keeping the temperatures of your M.2 SSD low. Meanwhile they are ready to release another series of heat sink, which goes by the name Eisblock HDX 2 and HDX 3.
These blocks come with a PCIe x4 card and you can mount the SSD and cooler in a separate card, rather than directly to the motherboard. Since the M.2 slots are usually placed between the PCI Express slots and under high-end graphics cards, the airflow can be very though. With a PCIe x4 card, the M.2 SSD will receive a better airflow and will avoid any throttling situation.
The HDX-2 is a passive block which covers the entire surface of the PCIe x4 card. The block is made of aluminum with thick fins. Furthermore Alphacool introduces the HDX-3, a block that is built for water cooling loops. With this cooler you can easily add your M.2 SSD in your custom loop. The water block itself uses nickel-plated copper base and is made from a single acetal block, this way the water will flow over the entire SSD.
Both the Eisblock HDX 2 and HDX 3 are available via aquatuning. The HDX 2 is priced at $40.95 and the HDX 3 costs $84.03.
