AMD kicked off its Radeon on the Road tour yesterday in Budapest. The aim was to show off a few details regarding the upcoming Radeon RX Vega graphics card. In other words, they’re starting to build up a hype regarding their upcoming high-end GPUs. The next stop on AMD’s Radeon on the Road tour is going to be the PDXLAN event in Portland (US) and after that the products should be finally revealed at SIGGRAPH 2017.
According to the reports from the event in Budapest, there were two systems based on Ryzen 7 processors, while one was equipped with a NVIDIA GPU and the other featured an AMD graphics cards. The green team was backed by a GTX 1080 graphics card while the red team was equipped with a RX Vega. This seems to confirm some earlier indications that RX Vega cards will offer comparable performance to the GTX 1080 (non Ti). Unfortunately we don't know if FreeSync and G-Sync monitors were used since the monitor bezels were obscured. The event has been sponsored by ASUS, which would make it likely that the monitors come from them. Unfortunately it’s hard to guess which model was used.
According to AMD, the gaming PC based on Vega RX costs $300 US less than the NVIDIA one. However there aren't many facts backing that claim, since we don’t know the price of the upcoming RX Vega cards and what componentry was used exactly.
Ultimately it’s really disappointing that during the event no performance numbers were shown. The only thing that was visible is that both systems ran games smoothly. We’re quite sure we will have to wait until SIGGRAPH 2017 to find out more details. The event is going to start July 30th at 7:30 PM and ends by 8:45 PM PST. So far it’s not been disclosed whether there is going to be a live stream or not, but we certainly hope that is going to be the case.
