AMD’s Frontier Edition graphics card has been spotted in the Futuremark database, showcasing performance that is similar to the NVIDIA GTX 1080, which would mean that the new AMD flagship graphics card won’t be capable of competing with NVIDIA’s very top range models. However, the results posted in the Futuremark database show some unapproved AMD beta driver. All the scores have been gathered in combination with an Intel Core i7-4790K processor.
The user #define has tested the Vega Frontier Edition graphics card in 3DMark running three different routines. In Fire Strike Performance the card hit 22'986 points regarding the graphics score, while in Extreme 10'585 graphics points have been reached. Last but not least, the result shows that the card is running Fire Strike Ultra 1.1 with a graphics score of 5'336 points. According to our GPU chart, this GPU is able to outperform NVIDIA’s GTX 1080 as well as the AMD R9 Fury X. However the Vega Frontier Edition isn't capable of competing with NVIDIA’s highest-end models such as the GTX 1080 Ti or Titan Xp graphics cards.
The 3DMark database also shows a GPU clock speeds of 1600MHz. Looking at the memory specs, the “undetected AMD” card features 16GB of HBM2 VRAM running at 945MHz. On the Radeon R9 Fury the HBM1 memory was set to run at 500MHz.
According to Guru3D, the PC and the beta driver are responsible for the somewhat low scores and we should wait for more tests with approved drivers.
