A few months ago, GALAX introduced their new GTX 1070 Katana graphics card which features a single slot cooler. Due to the cooler’s size, the card offers a very sleek design. The GeForce GTX 1070 Katana is the world’s first single slot GTX 1070 and it is finally available in the US.
Creating a single-slot GeForce GTX 1070 graphics card poses quite a few challenges to the cooler. Since it has to remove the heat from the GPU, memory and VRM using much less surface area and a slimmer fan, some compromises have to be made. GALAX for that matter is using their so called RazorX heatsink, which combines a vapor chamber with a dense copper fin array, which should suffice to remove the heat at reasonable noise levels.
Since this card is very slim it is perfect for a small form factor gaming PC. Checking the specs we see that the GeForce GTX 1070 Katana comes factory-overclocked to 1518MHz/1708MHz Core/Boost clocks, while the GTX 1070 Founders Edition works at 1506MHz/1683MHz Core/Boost frequencies. This is a very tiny factory OC, but nevertheless it’s impressive that GALAX is actually overclocking a card with such a small GPU cooler.
Regarding connectors we find one DisplayPort 1.4, one HDMI 2.0b connector and one dual-link DVI port. The card is available in the US for 419.99 dollar.
