According to Benchlife, Intel is going to launch their upcoming X299 HEDT as well as the Coffee Lake platform during the next months. It looks like with the launch of these chips Intel is going to change quite a few things.
According to SiSoft Sandra’s database, Intel is testing a six-core Core-i5 processor. This CPU will not feature Hyperthreading but it will come with a base clock of 3.5GHz and an unknown Boost frequency. Following a rumor from Benchlife, Intel might introduce Coffe Lake shortly after Skylake-X around August 2017 timeframe.
A Core i5 with six cores could be Intel’s answer to AMD's Ryzen 5 CPUs, although at the moment there aren't more details available. Compared to the current Core i7-6800K CPU, the unknown cihp offers considerably smaller cache. Furthermore since it is based on socket LGA 1151, there might be temperature temperature issues and diy-users who want to boost the clock speeds would do good delidding the chip.
We’ve already reported several times that Intel might launch their upcoming Skylake-X, Kaby Lake-X and shortly thereafter also the Coffee Lake-S processors.
