Revealing GPU specifications
AMD’s RX Vega GPU has been spotted in the SiSoft Sandra database, showcasing performance that is similar to the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080, which would mean that the upcoming AMD flagship graphics card would be kind of capable to compete with NVIDIA. The results posted in the SiSoft Sandra database have been gathered using the GP Processing benchmark.
Looking at the specifications and considering previous rumors these results were expected. Whether AMD RX Vega is going to be capable of competing with the NVIDIA GeForce GTX 1080 will therefore depends the clock speeds can be pushed on the new silicon. Apart from that it should be kept in mind, that the SiSoft Sandra GP Processing benchmark is of a highly theoretical nature, which means that there are certain correlations regarding gaming performance but there is still a lot of uncertainty to what extent those theoretical numbers can be translated into the real world games. One thing is for sure, nevertheless; looking at the computing power only the RX Vega outperforms the entire AMD R9 Fury series by quite a margin.
The benchmark result also shows several GPU specifications. According to the SiSoft Sandra database the AMD RX Vega GPU features 64 CUs and a total of 4096 Vega stream processors. Furthermore there is a 2048-bit memory interface, that has been combined with 8GB of VRAM. Apparently there are also some specifications, which are clearly not correct, since for instance in the case of the clock speeds 344 MHz are mentioned.
At this point in time it is unknown how well Vega will perform or how this GPU will be priced, leaving consumers with nothing more than a few new details. According to what we have seen during the AMD's Capsaicin and Cream Event, Vega is apparently a new GPU architecture from AMD, which is already a good thing, but it’s still not clear to what extent this will make the red faction competitive again in the high-end segment.
AMD has already confirmed that they are going to release their Vega graphics cards during the first half of 2017. Judging by the number of teasers and news it appears that the launch of the upcoming AMD RX Vega GPU is just around the corner and we are pretty sure that during the next weeks more details will surface.
