By looking for a Senior Marketing Manager Nvidia unintentionally confirmed that a new Ti-version of their GTX 1080 graphics cards series is incoming. In its job description on LinkedIn Nvidia is writing the following: "980 Ti users get first spot in line for 1080 Ti pre-orders, or Step Up offer". Looking back at previous generations of Nvidia graphics cards, it’s basically been clear as day that a 1080 Ti is about to be launched and we believe that more information on it will be revealed during CES 2017.
The GTX 1080 Ti should be a cheaper version of the Nvidia Titan X Pascal which, at the moment, can be found for 1074 Euro on Geizhals. The Titan-series has always been geared towards professional users, while the Ti’s feature set purely addressed gamers. Going back in history there was for instance the GTX 780 Ti which was a cut-down version of the Titan Black and the GTX 980 Ti which was based on the Titan X.
So far there isn’t any detailed information on specifications regarding the GTX 1080 Ti but we believe we’re capable of an educated guess. Looking at the old Titan GPUs we see that the Ti version featured either half or the same amount of VRAM. Today, since the GTX 1080 features 8GB of GDDR5X, the GTX 1080 Ti will have at least 8GB of memory. It simply would not make any sense at all if the 1080 Ti would feature lower specs than its smaller sibling. Yet at the same time, it’s as unlikely that the GTX 1080 Ti would come with the same amount or more memory than the GTX Titan X Pascal.
If you want to know what we believe the feature list of an upcoming GTX 1080 Ti could look like you can find it in the table below.
