While we have already seen plenty of benchmark leaks about Intel's upcoming Kaby Lake lineup, the latest benchmarks of the Core i5-7600K, show that we can expect a 10 percent performance increase when compared to previous Skylake architecture.
Comparing it to the Skylake-based Core i5-6600K,
latest benchmark slides leaked at PCOnline.com.cn show that the actual performance improvement only comes from higher clock speeds so it appears that upgrading from Skylake will not make a lot of sense, at least unless the Kaby Lake is much better at overclocking.
Compared in 3DMark Fire Strike, Cinebench R15.0, WinRAR, Photoshop CS6, Fritz Chess 4.32, wPrime 2.05 and other benchmarks, the results show a minor performance improvement of the Core i5-7600K over the Core i5-6600K, so we can expect similar results with flagship Core i7-7700K vs. Core i7-6700K.
The good side of the story is that Intel's Kaby Lake CPUs will be compatible with existing LGA1151 motherboards, allowing users to easily upgrade.
As rumored earlier, Intel's new Kaby Lake desktop CPUs are expected to launch in Q1 2017.
