Seagate unveils 7mm-thick 2TB mobile HDD

Brings more capacity to notebooks

While it is not a problem to squeeze in an SSD in a 7mm-thick notebook drive space, HDDs are still way cheaper and provide much higher capacity, which is probably why Seagate decided to come up with two new 7mm-thick 2.5-inch Mobile HDDs with 2TB and 1TB capacity.

The new Seagate Mobile HDD lineup should provide decent capacity boost to any notebook without a big budget hit and provide up to 100MB/s of sequential performance, feature 128MB DRAM cache and consume 1.7W under load and 0.5W in idle.

As noted, the new Seagate Mobile HDD lineup will be available in 1TB and 2TB capacity, each available in three different versions, depending on the level of encryption. There will be a version without encryption as well as with standard or FIPS 140-2 encryption. Both versions will also be backed by a two year warranty.

Currently, only Samsung offers 2TB SSDs with 850 EVO and the 850 Pro but these are quite expensive so Seagate's new Mobile HDD lineup will certainly be popular. While these should be already shipping, they are still not listed in retail so we do not have any idea regarding the price.
