Nvidia has announced their financial report for the third quarter of fiscal year 2016, reporting a record revenue of US $1.305 billion, up by 7 percent compared to the last year and up by 13 percent compared to the last quarter.
In addition to a record revenue of US $1.305 billion, Nvidia reported a gross margin of 56.3 percent with an operating income of US $245 million and net income of US $246 million, ending up with diluted earnings per share of US $0.44, up by 42 percent compared to the last year.
The Non-GAAP financial report is a bit different with slightly higher gross margin of 56.5 percent and operating and net income of US $308 and $255 million. The Non-GAAP is important due to a large write-down Nvidia took earlier with their Icera modem division.
The biggest winner in Nvidia's Q3 FY2016 financial report is the GPU department with 12 percent increase compared to the last quarter and 16 percent increase compared to the last year. The gaming part of the GPU market went up by 40 percent compared to the last year. The Quadro, Tesla and GRID did not do so well since both Quadro and Tesla and GRID sides of business were down by 8 percent compared to the same quarter last year. Quadro was up by eight percent compared to the last quarter and Tesla and GRID were up by 13 percent.
The biggest loss in the last quarter was the Tegra Processor business, recording a revenue of US $129 million, which was up by 1 percent compared to the last quarter but down by 23 percent compared to the last year.
Nvidia had quite a good Q3 FY2016 and this is pretty good news as it appears that PC gaming industry is doing quite well and gaming GPUs are selling well. Nvidia expects its next quarter to be equally good with revenue of around US $1.30 billion.
