In addition to the new Samsung 950 Pro M.2 SSD, the company also unveiled some more details regarding its future lineup, including the upcoming 4TB 850 Pro SSD that will be available next year.

While the new 950 Pro SSD sticks to second-generation V-NAND chips, Samsung has recently announced its third-generation 48-layer V-NAND flash memory that is now in mass production and should be ready for first devices in 2016.

Among the first devices that will use 256Gbit third-generation V-NAND chips will be Samsung's 850 lineup, which recently got upgraded from 1TB to 2TB. According to Samsung, as of next year, the 850 Pro SSD lineup will be switching from second-gen to third-gen V-NAND chips and be available in capacities of up to 4TB.

While it was expected that Samsung will come up with a 4TB SSD thanks to the new V-NAND technology, the big surprise is that we are looking at a 850 Pro series SSD, as there is expected performance impact with denser NAND. Of course, it is left ot be seen as Samsung is still not ready to share some specific details regarding these drives.

In addition to the 850 Pro, Samsung also plans to update its M.2 850 EVO lineup, pushing it from currently available 512GB to 1TB, again thanks to the third-gen TLC V-NAND chips.

Solid state drives are slowly coming closer to HDDs in terms of capacity and denser TLC NAND will certainly drive the prices down so hopefully, we will see some impressive pricing when these drives hit retail next year.
