As we draw closer to the launch of Intel's new Skylake desktop CPUs, it was just a matter of time before we have a chance to check out some of the premium motherboards based on the new Intel Z170 Express chipset, including MSI's Z170A XPower Gaming Titanium Edition motherboard that we have a chance see today.
While MSI still keeps all the details for the launch day, we did get a glimpse of the motherboard as well as some of its features. The most notable design feature is the new color scheme and while white PCB has been used before on motherboards, we must say that it was quite rare (limited to some Sapphire Pure motherboards, ASUS Sabertooth Mark S Z97 and probably some other less known motherboards) but looks quite good, especially with black on white color scheme (with some red accents) on the new MSI motherboard.
As you could guess from the name of the new MSI motherboard, the MSI Z170A XPower Gaming Titanium edition will be based on Intel's Z170 Express chipset and support Intel's new 6th generation Core Skylake CPUs which should officially launch on 5th of August. As far as you can see from the picture that we got, the motherboard uses a standard ATX form-factor, has a 16-phase VRM with Titanium chokes, which are part of MSI's new Military Class V components, four DDR4 memory slots, four PCI-Express 3.0 x16 slots (x16,x16,x8,x8) and three PCI-Express 3.0 x1 slots.
The VRM draws power from standard 24-pin ATX, 8-pin EPS and additional 4-pin power connectors, as well as an additional 6-pin power connector for adding more power to PCI-Express slots. The rest of the specifications that we can see from the picture include Audio Boost 3 audio, eight SATA 6Gbps ports, two SATA Express ports, two M.2 ports and plenty of USB 3.0 and USB 2.0 ports.
The MSI Z170A XPower Gaming Titanium edition also comes with plenty of overclocking friendly features including on-board buttons and a neat little addition called the OC Dashboard. It is a dedicated PCB which uses an extended cable and should separate overclocking buttons from the motherboard when overclocking with LN2.
MSI decided to do just a slight preview of the motherboard and sent us just a few pictures so hopefully we will see a lot more about it when it launches on August 5th.
