A new Duke Nukem!

The coolest of all shooter granddaddies

Duke Nukem is without the shadow of a doubt the coolest of all in-game characters. His jokes are simply legendary and another successor would be highly anticipated. Gearbox-CEO Randy Pitchford has now announced that he wants to continue the franchise.

During the game conference Develop, Gearbox-CEO Randy Pitchford mentioned that he didn't just buy the franchise, so people can play Duke Nukem Forever, forever. It has been some kind of fee, that had to be paid in order to give Duke Nukem a future. According to Pitchford there are concepts on where Duke's journey could go, but there isn't the right developer who wants to take over the project. At the moment Gearbox is waiting for that right developer to appear and when the time is right they want to kick the project off.

A little bit of history: 3D Realms started working on Duke Nukem: Forever back in 1996 and in 2010 Gearbox took over the project to finish the game in 2011. After 15 years the game was finally released and it was actually not bad, but the expectations were sky high, so it was a little bit disappointing. It would be great to see another, properly developed Duke Nukem, since there is so much, that can be made of this character.
