Samsung officially announces 2TB 850 Pro/EVO SSDs

Same performance as the 1TB versions

While these were already spotted listed in retail/e-tail Samsung has now officially announced its 2TB versions of both the Samsung 850 Pro and Samsung 850 EVO SSDs.

Based on the same 2.5-inch form-factor and Samsung's 3D V-NAND 3-bit MLC NAND (3D V-NAND 2bit MLC on 850 Pro) combined with the new Samsung MHX controller and 2GB of on-board DRAM cache, Samsung has managed to retain the same performance seen on the 1TB version of these SSDs.

In case you missed them earlier, the Samsung 850 EVO 2TB will have sequential read and write performance of 540MB/s and 520MB/s while 4K random read and write performance will be set 98,000 and 90,000 IOPS.

The Samsung 850 Pro SSD will have a slightly higher sequential read and write performance of 550MB/s and 520MB/s while 4K random read and write is at 100,000 and 90,000 IOPS. The Samsung 850 Pro is also backed by a 10-year warranty while 850 EVO sticks with 5-year warranty.

Currently, both the 2TB 850 Pro and the 2TB 850 EVO are listed in retail with a price set at around US $1000 and US $800, respectively. Unfortunately, Samsung did not posted any information regarding availability and the price so we will keep a closer eye on the market.

According to Samsung's senior vice president of branded product marketing, Un-Soo Kim, the company has experienced a surge in demand for 500GB and higher capacity SSDs and that we can soon expect the company to introduce higher-capacity models in its mSATA and M.2 form-factor SSD lineup as well.
