As expected with the recent launch of Intel 4th generation Core Haswell CPUs, some of the older Core CPUs will be EOLed and, according to a report from Fudzilla.com, it appears that this is a rather long list with a total of 34 CPUs that will be EOLed.
The list kicks off with the Core i5 3350P CPU, which has received PDN (Product discontinuance notice) in Q3 2013 and is expected to EOL in Q1 2014. The Core i5 2390T already reached EOL status in Q3 2013 while Ivy Bridge based Core i3 3225 and 3210 both received PDN in Q3 and will be EOLed in Q1 2014. The remaining Sandy Bridge Core i3 2100 2125, 2130, 2120T and 2102 have all reached EOL in Q3 2013.
The Atom lineup was not spared either and Atom D2500 has received PDN (Product discontinuance notice) but will EOL in Q3 2014, suggesting that there is still some market for it. The Sandy Bridge-based Pentium G860, G645, G645T, G550T, G555, G465, G630, G620, G622, G870, G860T, G640, G530T have all reached EOL status in Q3 2014 and same thing happened with Pentium G630T and G640T as well as Celeron G550, G540T, G460, G530 parts.
Intel is getting rid of all 32nm parts as current 22nm ones are running circles around them in terms of power efficiency and in some cases even performance. The problem is that although Haswell is a good choice it does require a new motherboard while most Ivy Bridge parts can be used in older Sandy Bridge motherboards and these surely have their place on the market.
