Google goes ARM?

No decision taken, yet

According to a report over at Bloomberg Google might be working on their ARM based processors. The goal should be to reach an even better level of software/hardware integration then there already is. Nevertheless these rumors should be taken with a grain of salt, since similar news are floating around since 2010.

Bloomberg says, they received word from an insider and he's telling them, that no descision had been taken yet. Liz Markman, Google spokesperson, told Bloomberg, that Google is constantly working on providing the best possible infratstructure for Android. This includes the software side as well as the hardware side.

It is rather interesting to see, that Google is already producing their own watercooled datacenters, where they also use their own switches. If Google now were to switch to ARM based servers, this would mean, that Intel might see quite a drop in revenue, since Google is their fifth largest customer, that accounts for 4.3 percent Intels revenue.
