AMD is definitely gaining market share and most of it comes from the upcoming Playstation 4 and Xbox One consoles. Analysts expect strong sales of consoles and AMD will definitely have its hands full with shipping of Jaguar-based custom parts on which both of these consoles are based.
While it is gaining market share in the x86 department, which is not surprising consider how muc next-generation consoles Microsoft and Sony plan to produce in the next few quarters, but it is still loosing when it comes to PC processor market share. When it comes to total x86 market share, Intel ended up with 80.2 percent market share, which is down from 83.3 percent a year ago, while AMD went up from 16.1 percent to 19.3 percent. In PC processor market share, Intel actually gained a few percents while AMD dropped from 16.1 to 15.8 percent.
AMD will definitely score big with consoles but it still lacks a good chip to compete with Intel in PC processor market share.
