Some AMD AIB partners that we had a chance to talk to confirmed that the launch price for Radeon R9 290X is indeed set at US $699, at least for the time being.
We will refrain from revealing which partners we talked to due to obvious reasons but we did get a nod that AMD is currently aiming for US $699 for the R9 290X. This is pretty much in line with what we had a chance to see in an earlier leak from Newegg.com that listed some R9 290X graphics cards with a US $729 price tag.
A couple of those partners also noted that although the price is currently set at US $699, AMD can easily change it as well, even a few hours before the official launch. The price most likely refers to BF4 Edition and it is a general feeling that most, if not all, R9 290X graphics cards during an official launch will actually be BF4 Edition, until AMD spends all the codes that they got from EA/DICE.
We still have to see some official reviews and benchmarks but judging from an early one, AMD decided to market the R9 290X according to its performance despite the fact that we were hoping for at least a bit lower price tag, something in the range of US $599.
