Intel unveils SSD Pro 1500

SF-2281 based SSD for OEMs/SIs

Kicking off its Intel Developer Forum 2013 in San Francisco, Intel has decided to unveil its new SSD Pro 1500, the first non-datacenter drive based on Sandforce SF-2281 controller paired up with 20nm MLC NAND and aimed primarily at OEMS and SIs.

Despite its new fancy name, the internals of the new Intel SSD Pro 1500 are quite well known Sandforce SF-2281 controller, the same one that Intel used on wide range of its SSDs as well as Intel's own 20nm 2bpc MLC NAND chips. The new SSD Pro 1500 will be available in 80, 120, 180, 240, 360 and 480GB capacities and mostly based on the 2.5-inch/7mm and M.2 form factor. Only exceptions are the 80GB version, which will be available in 2242 (22x42mm) and 2280 (22x80mm) form factors as well as the 480GB model that will only be available in 2.5-inch/7mm form factor.

The proven Sandforce SF-2281 controller is paired up with Intel's own firmware, which works better than the Sandforce one, and feature support for low power operation. It will also feature vPro and Intel Setup & Configuration Service 9.0 support, which allows remote management and diagnostics.

As noted, the Intel SSD Pro 1500 will mostly be sold via OEMs and System Integrators, although a limited batch will be offered via retail/e-tail. It is backed by a 5-year warranty.
