AMD Hawaii GPU to be priced below US $600

Might force Nvidia to make a price cut

According to a report over at Fudzilla.com, AMD's upcoming Hawaii-based graphics card scheduled to be unveiled to a selected members of the press at the "volcanic island" of Hawaii on September 25th, will actually be priced below US $600.

Although the precise price was not reported due to the fact that AMD can change it even a day before the launch, the report does claim that the current general idea is to launch it below US $600. While US $599.99 still falls below US $600, our best guess is that it will most likely launch with an even more appealing US $549 price tag. EVen with US $599.99, the upcoming Hawaii-based flagship will still fall below the Nvidia Geforce GTX 780 which is currently priced at around US $649+.

Earlier in June, during Computex, there have been a couple of rumors regarding Nvidia counter for the upcoming AMD launch and most rumors noted that Nvidia will not launch a new GPU and in that case, might actually be forced into price cut, at least for the GTX 780.

The recent move from AMD and its AIB partners to cut down the HD 7990 dual-GPU Malta graphics card down to US $699 now makes complete sense as the Hawaii-based flagship graphics card might be faster that the HD 7970, but will most likely end up to be slower than the HD 7990, at least in those titles where the internal Crossfire actually works.

We are quite sure that we will see more as we draw closer to the official date of the unveiling and we will surely keep a close eye on it.
