PC industry will still be on its knees this year and is not expected to come back up anytime soon, not even during next year. According to Gartner's latest report, Apple's operating systems are expected to overtake Windows by 2015.
Of course, Apple might be able to overtake Windows but only if the mobile devices are included in the statistics. While Windows was doing pretty good in 2012, selling 347 million devices, Mac OS and iOS scored a decent 213 million devices. As Apple is mostly focused on mobile devices, such as smartphones and tablets, these numbers could turn by 2015.
Google Android is even doing better as it expects to hit 867 million devices this year which is more than Apple and Microsoft combined. Unfortunately, Android is not that quite famous with box and notebook computers so practically did not do much to hurt Microsoft.
Gartner expects that the sales of traditional desktops and notebook to fall by about 11 percent this year and around 5 percent next year while tablets are expected to soar up to 202 million this year, up from 120 million last year. Smartphones will do even better as shipments are expected to rise from 1.7 billion this year up to 1.9 billion units.
PC industry is certainly heading for a rough patch and things are looking very grim.
