A few months ago, TSMC started the mass production of Apple A12 chip in Taiwan. Today DigiTimes has reported that 7nm production has been scaled up to meet volume commercial demand. According to TSMC CEO CC Wei, the overall production is a bit higher compared the past year and the company will hit a production capacity of 12 million compared 10 million of last year.


While we are already pretty sure that Apple's A12 chip will be rolling off the 7nm production lines, there isn't any further information about upcoming CPUs or GPUs. According to Wei, TSMC will unveil more than 50 chip design based on its 7nm process technology during the 2018. The first chips available will be used for upcoming AI systems and cryptocurrency solutions.

Right after we might see 7nm chips for SoCs and 5G chips. While we all know that Apple uses TSMC factories, there are other several companies that are waiting for 7nm chips from TSMC like AMD, Bitmain, NVIDIA and Qualcomm. During the next year, TSMC will start the risky production of 5nm chips and during the beginning of 2020 we might see first product lines.
