A few years ago, Cherry has released its first low-profile mechanical switch which however now is outdated. All the major competitor of Cherry like TTC, Adomax (Flaretech) and Kaihua are releasing new low profile switches and Cherry need an updated version as well. For this reason during CES 2018, Cherry has announces MX Low Profile RGB key switches.
The Cherry MX Low Profile RGB is the first new development in mechanical switches in more than 30 years. The R&D department has invested a lot of time in achieving a mechanical switch that is height only 11.9 millimeters. Compared to a standard MX switches, the MX Low Profile RGB is about 35% shallower. Due to its design, it can be used for mechanical keyboards in high-end notebooks.
According to Cherry, despite the low profile the upcoming switches offer the same feedback as the standard Cherry MX switches. The key travel has been reduced from 4mm to 3.2mm. As usual, the switches include high-precision and long-life Gold-Crosspoint technology. Each MX Low Profile RGB switch is guaranteed for over 50 million keystrokes with no loss in terms of quality.
At the moment the company has unveiled only the red variant but during the next months we should expect further variants.
