According to a new report from the Serial ATA International Organization (SATA-IO), Samsung is apparently releasing new SSD drives. The upcoming Samsung 860 EVO will be the successor to the 850 EVO which has been on the market for almost three years now.



According to details provided by SATA-IO, the Samsung 860 EVO’s performance should be similar to the speeds the currently available 850 EVO can deliver or a little bit higher. What’s overall the key aspect of this drive is the fact that it’s supposed to be even cheaper and available with higher capacities. The 860 EVO is most likely going to be based on 48-layer 3D-VNAND flash memory and in the case of the controller there should be the latest revision of Samsung’s Polaris. Furthermore the 860 EVO will come in 250GB, 500GB, 1TB, 2TB and 4TB flavors with SATA III interface and 2.5-inch, 7 mm form factor.

Unfortunately, there are no details on when the new 860 EVO lineup will actually launch or any details regarding the price.
