Futuremark has just updated its 3DMark benchmarking suite and a new Time Spy Extreme 4K routine has been added. Due to the massive 4K Ultra HD (3840 x 2160) resolution, this benchmark is capable of seriously stressing even the most powerful graphics cards. Apart from the new benchmark Futuremark has also implemented bug fixes and improvements.


As we already mentioned Futuremark has added a Time Spy Extreme 4K benchmark, which is now part of the 3DMark Time Spy suite and it's free for everyone who purchased a license after July 14, 2016. In order to run this benchmark you need Windows 10 and a DirectX 12 compatible graphics cards. A 4K/UHD monitor is not required to run this test but you have to use a graphics card with at least 4GB of video memory.

Time Spy Extreme also comes with a new CPU benchmark, which is putting up to three times the load on the CPU than the older testing routines. On of the reasons for that is that it benefits from the AVX2 instruction-set. Speaking about improvements and fixes, with version 2.4.3819 the API has been overworked to reduce overhead in the different tests.
