Leaked AMD roadmap shows Zen 2 processors

Available in two years

TechPowerUp has come across a few interesting slides on the Spanish website Informatica Cero. One of them actually shows a CPU roadmap for AMD's next generation of Zen processors. Pinnacle Ridge, which is the successor's code name, is supposed to be manufactured using 12nm technology instead of the current 14nm node.

The roadmap shows that AMD might release Zen 2 processors in 2019 and they could be based on a new architecture, which goes by the codename “Matisse”. There is no mention of core count, so it remains to be seen if Zen 2 will keep the same 8-cores / 16-threads design like the current Zen processors or if AMD will shoot for even more cores. According to a previous announcement from AMD the current X370 motherboards with socket AM4 should also be compatible with the upcoming Zen 2 processors. This would be a treat for customers who'd like to upgrade at that point in time.

There's also a rumor that the Ryzen mobile APUs (Raven Ridge), which are scheduled for 2018, might come with up to eight threads. In order words, there is a solid possibility that there might be APUs with four cores and SMT. The Raven Ridge chips are also rumored to pack 11 Vega CUs in the graphics department. In the case of desktop systems, these chips are supposed to fit in the socket AM4 while in the case of notebooks a new socket FP5 appears to be necessary.
