On August 21st, Intel is going to unveil their eighth-generation Core CPUs, codenamed Coffee Lake. Chipzilla is going to stream the announcement live on Facebook starting at 11:00 AM CEST (8:00 AM PDT). Intel didn't provide many details on what exactly they’re going to reveal related to Coffee Lake. Nevertheless since the live stream is going to take place two days before Gamescom 2017 opens its doors to the public, we’d guess it won’t just be notebook processors we’re going to see.


Meanwhile there are already lots of rumors on the Intel mainstream CPUs, with the latest being that not only the desktop chips will receive more cores but also the notebook counterparts. On top of that - according to Intel - there should be a performance improvement of 30%, when comparing Core i7 7th-gen CPUs with equivalent Core i7 8th-gen CPUs, while the chips compared are 15W TDP SKUs.

However the footnotes related to that comparison is a bit odd. According to Intel, they have compared the Intel Core i7-7500U Kaby Lake against a unnamed Core i7 Coffee Lake chip. In our opinion it’s a bit like comparing apples and pears since the Kaby Lake chip features 2 cores and 4 threads while the Coffee Lake SKU appears to have 4 cores and 8 threads and on top of that we know nothing about the clock speeds.

At this times it’s still unclear which kind of CPUs we will see during August 21st. Since there are at least two series of mobile CPUs (ULV and HQ), we’d guess both are going to be revealed and hopefully Intel is also going to show the desktop parts.
